“The year of 2020 is a year that most of us will remember. We were going through a national pandemic and the island was in lockdown. It was also the year when we sadly lost our Dad, Graham Postlethwaite.

Our Dad was admitted to hospital, not very well after returning from his favourite holiday destination of Cyprus in March 2020.

He was diagnosed with a brain tumour where he stayed in hospital for three weeks. But family and friends were unable to visit as we were in lockdown.

When he was discharged from hospital, Dad was treated at home with the help from Hospice Isle of Man and a carer. Over the coming weeks Dad has lots of visitors to the bedroom window which overlooked the front garden. This gave him lots of joy as did all the friendly faces and food parcels. His favourite being scones and chocolate.

With the care and professionalism over the following weeks from all the Hospice nurses and health care assistants, something that was heart-breaking to endure was handled with so much empathy, care and kindness.

They were there every evening and whenever we needed them. Always a phone call away and nothing ever too much to ask, despite being in lockdown. Towards the end they always ensured that he was pain free and comfortable and everything was handled with dignity.

We as a family couldn’t have got through this difficult time if we hadn’t had the amazing support and care from Hospice Isle of Man.

Our Dad, Graham, sadly passed away on the 4th of June 2020.”
